Christmas Story Readers and Looking Ahead
Season's Greetings First Grade Families!
During the month of December, we are inviting parents to come into our classroom to read a Christmas/winter story. One of the greatest gifts you can give a child is the gift of reading! We invite you to come cozy up next to your child (or grandchild - because grandparents are welcome too!) and read a story to our class.
You will be able to sit in a special place with your little one next to you, with the Christmas tree twinkling near by - as you read to us! If you have a favorite seasonal story in mind, you are welcome to share it with us, or you may pick one out from our large selection of holiday stories in the classroom. We try to keep story time to a maximum of 15 minutes, so that the children don't get too wiggly, and because we move into our next lesson/work session of the day right after!!
It is our goal to get one reader per class each school day in December. Our story time is from 12:35-12:50 pm, but we can try to be flexible if that time does not work for you. The other preferred times are at 9:00am or 3:20pm. If you are interested, please contact me to sign up!! Volunteer clearance forms must be completed. This is always a favorite experience of mine to offer to families, and I hope you are able to share your love of reading with our eager little minds!
Also, please don't tell your child if you are coming in to read!!! The students LOVE to be surprised to see if the reader belongs to them - - - it's always something we look forward to: figuring out our guest reader!
Looking ahead to next week --- we will be having our K-2 Christmas Program on Tuesday!! We will be traveling to the auditorium that morning for a rehearsal as a lower el. group. Ms. Betrus is asking that all K-2 students meet in the High School Choir room Tuesday night at 6:45. I will be there to help get our class ready to go and in their spots! I cannot wait to hear all of the songs/speaking parts that they have been working so hard to learn!!!
We will also be starting a Christmas Around the World unit in reading which will be a lot of fun! How exciting to be able to learn about how other countries/cultures celebrate the holidays!!
