We HeART First Grade!
What a Happy Valentine's Day it was here in First Grade! We were all so excited to come to school on Thursday and begin our HeART party right away!! There was tons of fun packed into our morning and I can't wait for you to see/read all about it! Here is a look at our day:
We started our morning with a breakfast picnic in the group area. It is always fun to get away from our tables to eat breakfast with our friends! We followed up our picnic with our awesome heART party. This was so much fun and we were able to be super creative and show off our artistic sides! All of the students were able to pick out a canvas to paint that already had vinyl letters placed on them to spell out LOVE.
Next, we spent time panting over the entire canvas with pink, purple and red paint, in any design we could think of. Some friends tried color blocking their canvases, others made stripes or dots, while others thought it was best to mix all fo the colors together....it didn't matter which method they chose, as long as they covered the entire canvas!
We were joined by Grandma D and Mrs. Paulen during our party and they greatly enjoyed the chance to come in, relax with our first grade class and express their artistic abilities as well!
Camden, Aiden, Adri and Addy all decided to try a color block technique on their canvases!
After everyone was done painting, it was time to let our canvases dry fully.
Here is what they looked like after painting!
While giving our ART enough time to dry (some needing much more time than others) we got busy writing about all of the reasons to LOVE first grade and Forest View. These kiddos came up with some great reasons!
After recess, we came back to work on math and there was no way we were getting away from our Valentine's day theme for that! We enjoyed various math activities which all helped us to practice skills we have been working hard on.
We were able to work on comparing tens and ones in order to sort two digit numbers in order from greatest to least and visa versa. We were also able to work on adding three numbers together, which is a new skill! We had a lot of fun!
Our canvases took the better part of the rest of the day to dry so we made sure to get some more fun in while we waited for them!
We passed out and checked out all of our Valentine's Day cards! It was so nice seeing friends excited about the cards and fun toys rather than a ton of candy. Thank you so much for helping them share the joy in that way!!!
During the afternoon, we took a break from learning and practicing our reading skills to join our reading buddies in Mrs. Simon's class for a Valentine's movie.
When we came back from Mrs. Simons it was finally time to peel off the vinyl letters off of our canvases and see what the final products would look like!
And now for the highly anticipated pictures....here are the final masterpieces that our first grade artists created!
I hope you had a great Valentine's Day and are enjoying your extended weekend with your family! Be on the lookout for information about our next big First Grade event (First Grade Market) coming home soon!
Finally, Box Tops are being collected this week! If you have any that you are saving, please bring them in by Friday, February 22nd! There will be a prize awarded to the class who collects and turns in the most box tops!!! Every box top helps our classroom! Thank you so much for your support!
