Future World Changers
This past week we had fun asking all of the first graders what they would like to be when they grow up. We have started learning about the past, present and future in social studies this week. When talking about this little project I led with the fact that everyone is special and important and that no matter what they do in the future, they have the chance to change the world and make a difference in the lives of others. We had so many creative aspirations for the future and I cannot wait to see what all of these kids decide to do with their futures and how they help to change the world!!!
On Thursday, we began taking our learning outside! This has been a much anticipated time - when it is warm enough and nice enough to get outside to learn!!! During math on Thursday, we were able to exercise both our minds and out bodies with a little Double-Digit Addition Scoot. Everyone had a scooter and a recording sheet and scooted around finding math problems to solve and record. It was a blast.
Friday brought out more exercise for both our minds and bodies at our Amy Hutton Scholarship Triathlon, organized by Miss G. and our scholarship team. We started our triathlon in the library with a STEM activity. Since first grade has been learning about animals and animal habitats, we based our STEM station around just that. Our firsties were given the task to build various habitats, cages and recreational areas at a zoo for their team animals.
Next, we took the fun outside, broke into teams and played a variety of relay games on the playground thanks to Mr. Mowbray. They had a blast working together to complete the relay activities. I think the favorite was the water station!
We ended our triathlon with my favorite station - celebrate reading! Our kiddos took to the outside classroom with towels and books in tow and spent quality time engaged and reading. It was tremendous to see! They showed so much enthusiasm for reading and were so excited to be spending the time outside. I am excited for the opportunity to open up our outside classroom this week for our class to work outside in while enjoying fresh air and sunshine at the same time! Be on the lookout for a letter coming home this week with some more information about our outdoor space!
