We Have an ATTITUDE that Shows GRATITUDE!

I am so thankful for each one of these kiddos that I get to see come in to class, so eager each morning to learn something new!

We have had a busy month, full of new experiences, giving and gratitude.

We were excited to receive our newest book of the month this month, The Gruffalo, from our generous sponsors! It is a fun story that I have enjoyed getting to hear over and over, as some of our friends kept their copy in their book boxes and read it during our Daily 5 stations.

Over the last few weeks we have wrapped up a unit on folktales, getting the opportunity to do a STEM project along with Little Red Riding Hood after we finished. The class worked to build their own baskets for Little Red Riding Hood to deliver goodies to her grandmother with.

They were tasked with the job of designing and building a basket that would hold 50 cakes (blocks) and be able to travel 120 steps (it is our goal in math to count to 120 by the end of the year)!

In math, we are working hard and becoming fluent in adding and subtracting within 10 and finding the unknown number in both addition and subtraction problems. I am happy to say I have seen some tremendous progress! We have also been working on solving mixed story problems!

This past week we finished a unit on SPACE in science and knowledge. We are excited to celebrate our learning with an exciting Space Station Day on Wednesday! I can't wait to share pictures with you at the end of the week! We were able to use our Boo Gram money that we made in October to purchase all of the materials that both first grade classrooms will need for our fun activity day! Thank you again to all of our volunteers for donating your time to help sell boo grams!

This month, as we talked about things we are grateful for, we discussed many times how were are so thankful to have our friends and see each of our friends every day. As a celebration of friendship, combined with Thanksgiving, we were able to have our annual First Grade Friendsgiving! Just look at that amazing group of firsties all sitting around the table enjoying each other's company and yummy food!

This is such a fun opportunity for these kiddos to learn about the first Thanksgiving, eat food that is both traditional and something that may have been eaten long ago, as well as have an opportunity to enjoy the company of friends.

This would not have been possible without the donations of food and time given by so many of you! We appreciate all of your support and commitment to your child's school experiences!

The end of this month also brought a visit from our reading buddies! We love getting together with our 4th graders each month! This month, we sat with our buddies and took turns reading books to each other! I loved hearing everyone read and talk about their books together!

Stay tuned for more excitement as we near Christmas break (its almost here)! We will pack so much fun into our learning the next three weeks!!! Up next, we will be working on two-digit numbers and understanding how they are made up of tens and ones, blends and magic-e in skills, geology in knowledge, and economics in social studies!! We are also learning about personal narrative stories and will be writing stories of our own very soon!

Each month, a student or class is awarded with our Woody and Buzz awards. This month, Jack was awarded the Woody award for showing kindness to a friend who was having a hard time. He invited that friend to come do something special with him. Way to be a respectful, caring friend Jack!
