Marching into Spring Break...and Beyond!
Welcome back from Spring Break!! I hope that you all had time to rest, relax and recharge this past week, whether you went away for spring break or stayed home! For me, I enjoyed resting and relaxing with family and visiting some sights in Petoskey. It was a little chilly but beautiful! I cannot wait to hear about everyone's spring break stories! We had a lot of friends excited for the adventures they were going to have and the new places they were going to see. We will be talking about our adventures today and will have a chance to write about our week as well!
The last week of March, before spring break, was busy and exciting! We had a lot going on as we wrapped up our Reading is Magic fun with our 4th grade reading buddies on Friday, as we joined the whole school for a Melt Your Face Off concert from our very own CHS marching band, as well as getting to celebrate with our whole class with a 'volleyball' party in the gym because we have now ALL passed Volleyball Sight Words!!! Take a look and listen below to all of the fun we had mixed in with our regular routine for the week!
The band did a great job and was SO interactive. We had tons of dancers and students singing along in the crowd to familiar songs!
Way to go Volleyball Champs! I am so proud of all of the hard work these kiddos have been putting in this year! Keep up the good work. Let's see how many more ball word parties we can have this year!
We are always THRILLED when our buddies come to visit and it was even more exciting to have them visit twice in one month!!
I am still in a bit of shock that it is already April. I cannot believe that we are coming in to the home stretch and will be starting quarter 4 already next week. We have a lot of great things happening within our curriculum as we continue on throughout the remainder of the year. As we continue, please keep working at home with your child on skills sent home. We are continuing to work on reading fluency and our cupcake homework will help your child improve their reading speed and accuracy. The more your child reads at home with you the more their fluency will improve - don't forget to send them back on Fridays! Additionally, your child should be reading their book bag book multiple times each night (they can read it to any grown-up at home, to siblings, to pets or to stuffed animals). The more times they read, the better they will become. These should continue being sent back every day.
We will be starting a new math unit on graphing this week. We will have many opportunities to learn how to analyze data and interpret various graphs. We will begin by learning key terms and what graphs are. We will learn how to sort and organize objects into graphs and how to interpret and compare the data we see.
In addition, we will be continuing to work on increasingly more difficult spelling and phonics skills, moving this week into long a vowel patterns. The spelling list is on our class website and you can access it here. Practice makes progress. If your child is having difficulty, have them practice in different ways. Sometimes we need to see the spelling/phonics patterns in different ways and use different modalities before they sink in. If you would like some additional ideas to help with spelling practice let me know!!!
Don't forget about our Lunch and Learn happening this week Friday! We cannot wait to have you join us for lunch and a great opportunity to learn about your child's reading level - what these levels mean, how you as a parent can interpret them and how you can find books that are at appropriate levels for your child. We cannot wait to see you there!
As an additional little incentive, since you have made it to the end of the blog post and are invested in what is happening in your child's learning I would love to give a little reward to kick-start our remaining couple of months. That being said, have your child choose between a TREASURE or a TAG. Tell them to pick one and when they tell me their choice they will get the reward that goes with it!!
