Opportunities Galore!
I hope that all of our Firstie Moms had a wonderful and blessed Mother's Day. Our class was busy preparing some special surprises for you while we worked our way up to Mother's Day. Not only did they think of multiple ways in which their moms were special, they also worked hard to create masterful portraits of their beautiful mothers as well. You can see we have some budding artists here!!!
We have been BUSY, BUSY, BUSY little worker bees here in First Grade! We have been hard at work learning about time, shapes and comparing/measuring length in Math, learning about Bees in Reading, learning s-blends and end blends in Spelling/Phonics, and will be wrapping up a fun Opinion Writing this week about why each and everyone of our firsties would be the best Principal for the Day!! In fact, Mr. Brown will be reading our stories when we finish and will be picking ONE lucky winner to spend a half-day with him and help him with his work!!! Our friends are SUPER excited about this opportunity and are coming up with some pretty compelling arguments as to why they would be the best choice!!!
As you know we are also working extremely hard on our animal research for our first grade Talking Zoo, which will be taking place during Forest View's very first Day at the Museum! Please join us on June 2nd to visit any or all of our amazing learning exhibits! The museum will be open from 1:30-3:00pm. You can stay for a bit or stay the whole time as you explore the wonderful world of the human body, animals from around the world and SO much more! Our K-4 students have been hard at work and are all eager to share their learning with you.
Our Forest View Elementary/Amy Hutton Walk/Jog-A-Thon is fast approaching. The 3rd annual Walk/Jog-A-Thon will be held on Friday, May 26th. Monies raised will go toward a Forest View scholarship honoring our very own Forest View graduating seniors, classroom leveled libraries and flexible seating in the classrooms! WOW!!! So much can be done with the money your child raises to walk/jog around the playground for the afternoon! New this year - each student that brings in pledges of $20 or more will receive a white t-shirt and will be able to be color bombed at the finish line! Don't forget about the special incentives for the classroom with the most money raised!
* 1st place - Pizza Party AND Extra Recess!!!!!
* 2nd and 3rd place - Extra Recess!!
Our school trip to Center Lake is about three weeks way, and is scheduled for Monday, June 12th. There is a $3.00 charge for each student to attend and needs to be sent in with your child's permission slip/activity choice form - DUE BACK BY MAY 31st. There are a variety of activities offered, and choices are specific to grade levels. If you have students in upper and lower el. your children will have different opportunities to choose from, so please make sure they are picking specifically from the list they brought home. Choose between GaGa Ball, Fishing, Painting, Arts and Crafts, Canoeing, Waterslide, Petting Farm/Hayride and more!
As a reminder----If your child does not make responsible choices at school, he or she will not be able to participate in the event. Additionally, if your child still has a library book at home they will not be able to attend. PLEASE bring back those books and remember to Make Great Choices!
Finally, PLEASE strongly consider signing up for our Book An Adventure with Cadillac Area Public Schools Summer Reading Program! This is a free book lending program offered to ALL current Kindergarten-3rd grade CAPS students. Students will receive access to hundreds of high interest books to read over the summer. There will be 3 opportunities to come in to Forest View during the summer to exchange for new books. Every time your child reads a book, they will get to fill out a postcard and return it to school for a chance to win a KINDLE TABLET! WOW!!! The more books they read, the greater their chances of winning!

WHEW...there's a lot to take in here with all of these great opportunities as we wrap up our fabulous year!!! If you have any questions about the upcoming events please don't hesitate to call or email! I would be happy to answer any questions you have!
Lastly, please keep thinking about those awesome animal costumes for our Talking Zoo. These do not have to be elaborate costumes purchased for tons of money. You might be able to find what you need in your drawers at home already. If not, oriental trading, the dollar store and garage sales would be great places to look for cheap items to use. If you are unable to come up with a costume please let me know so that we can have something for your child to wear (likely a headband of sorts showing their animal) on our Day at the Museum!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and any sunshine we have!
