Fall Fun....and a Book Report!!
Fall is here! We are definitely feeling it with the cooler/wet weather. Please make sure as the weather has changed that your child is coming to school with appropriate outside gear (coats/hats/mittens). We have had some cold ears and fingers after recess! Our friends have been very patient as we haven't been able to go outside for recess every day this week due to rain. We have been making sure to get our bodies moving and get our exercise in other ways!
These firsties were SO excited on Wednesday to bring in all of their Pumpkin Book Reports and matching, decorated pumpkins! I love this project in the fall! What a better way to make connections with book features that we have been learning at school than to connect them with a favorite book from home!!! Bonus - you get to work hands on with your child in a way that blends creativity and learning!
If you haven't gotten the chance yet, please log on to your child's seesaw account and watch them read their Body Systems book to you! We have worked SUPER hard and remembering key information from our daily read-alouds and writing about each body system. We have learned about our Skeletal, Muscular, Digestive, Circulatory, and Nervous Systems. For each of those systems we have written a sentence or two and drawn a picture of how that system works. Our seesaw videos showcase our learning! There are also a ton of other great videos for you to see there too! We made sure to read our stories a few times on our own and to a few partners before we made our videos so that we were ready to go!
Below you can see our friends working independently to show you all that they have been learning during Genius Hour - one of our favorite times during our busy week!
During math this week we have continued to focus on learning/applying strategies for adding within 20. We have learned how to use math mountains (number bonds), use circle drawings, use our fingers to count, as well as count on from the bigger number. On Thursday, we applied what we have learned into a fun fall craftivity. We made addition spiders! We had to make up 8 different true equations and find the totals on our own - these became the legs of our spiders! Next, we assembled our creepy crawlers and they were put into the hallway. It is always fun to apply our strategies in a fun hands on way!
Please check your child's folder for a flyer about our awesome Blue Ribbon Assembly. This will be held on November 6th at 10:00am. Our whole school will be bussed over to the auditorium that morning and are asking you to join us for our celebration! The National Blue Ribbon Award is a tremendous honor to be given and Forest View has been fortunate enough to be nominated to receive it! If you would like to join us and help welcome our star students into the assembly we ask that you arrive at the high school at 9:45am. When our busses arrive, you will help to create a tunnel of parents and community members, applauding our students as they enter the doors by the auditorium.
Our Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) team is asking that you PLEASE fill out a quick survey helping us gauge your thoughts on how our system of recognizing positive behaviors is going this year. Our students are working hard at being STARs and we are working hard at acknowledging, recognizing and rewarding those positive choices. Please click here to take the 2-3 minute survey!
We are getting super excited for our Halloween Hike and Wax Museum that is coming up next week Tuesday. Let's hope for nice weather! With that being said, we will be going outside no matter the weather. Please plan accordingly when sending your child that day (umbrellas/warm coats may be necessary)!
I would like to say THANK YOU to our parents who have volunteered to help sell BOO grams this week. It has been found to take a little longer than expected.....you were all very busy! This is such a fun thing for our friends to take part in and send notes to others! Thank you for your support and commitment to your child's class!
